The Company House is a treasured live music venue located in the heart of Halifax's North End.
Owner, MaryAnn Daye, named the venue after all of the mining families on Cape Breton Island who lived in "company houses". These houses were always filled with family, friends, good food, a bit of booze, heated discussions, and lots of music.
The concept of the logo came from the saying "canary in a coal mine". Years ago, caged canaries were sent down into the mines. These brave creatures symbolize self-sacrifice. Some musicologists even believe that birdsong has had a large influence on the development of music.
